Confidentiality Policy

This website does not create permanent cookies on users’ hard drives. However, when a temporary cookie is required to navigate on the website, it is recorded in the random access memory (RAM) and is automatically erased when the user ends the Web session. 

However, the website contains hyperlinks to other sites. Some of the websites can create permanent or temporary cookies on users’ computer hard drives. To obtain additional information, please consult the confidentiality policy of the websites visited.

Information transmitted automatically

When you access the website, information is exchanged automatically between your computer and our server, without your having to intervene. This information does not identify you personally. The following information is transmitted:

  • your Internet service provider’s domain name, e.g. “company.com” if you use a private Internet account, or “university.edu” if you access the Internet through a university, and your IP address, usually a unique number that is assigned to your computer when it is connected to the Internet that makes it possible to transmit without error documents intended for you;
  • the type of web browser and the operating system that you use;
  • the date and time at which you access our site;
  • the pages that you consult and the duration of these consultations;
  • the address of the referent website if you access our site through another site.

This information exchange is required solely by the technological requirements inherent in Internet navigation. The Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l’Habitation (MAMH) preserves the information necessary to count the number of visitors, the pages most frequently visited, the technology used by the site’s clientele, the referent websites, and the Web surfers’ countries of origin. This information is in no way used to collect, communicate or exchange user lists.

Transmission of personal or otherwise confidential information

If you decide to voluntarily submit personal or otherwise confidential information by email or by means of an unsecured electronic form,  please note that we will only use the information necessary to respond to your message or follow up on your request. The same confidentiality measures apply to the handling of emails as to regular mail.

The confidential information is only communicated to another government body when your request is addressed to the body or such communication is required by law. The information submitted will in no way be used to collect or establish user profiles.

The MAMH does not communicate by non-secure email any personal or otherwise confidential information. In accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information Ouverture d'un site externe dans une nouvelle fenêtre, if we ask you to supply personal information, we would first inform you of:

  • the name and address of the public body on behalf of which the information is being collected;
  • the use to be made of this information;
  • the categories of individuals who will have access to this information;
  • the compulsory or optional nature of the request;
  • the consequences of refusing to respond to the request;
  • the right of access to and the rectification of information stipulated in the Act;
  • the measures adopted to ensure confidentiality of the information when it is transmitted.

Other websites

Our website contains hyperlinks to other sites. When you follow such hyperlinks, you leave the MAMH website. The information exchanged at that time is not subject to the confidentiality policy of the MAMH website but to the policy governing the website visited.
